grassroot venues

Post by merchant »

does anyone know of any grassroot venues in greece (specifically athens) cause after looking for them i have yet to find any venues like the windmill where musicians can play for the sake of playing with the goal of having fun and perfecting their craft

update, i fucking found them, i found the grassroot venues of greece, i found the underground scene, i found the indie labels, i found the small bands i found it all. I am fucking ecstatic, i am probably the happiest i have been in a while.

Thank you to the world for keeping me alive this long, if i died now i would be mad cause i didn't actually go to any shows.

ok, so i kinda lied, i didn't find anything at the time, i found some random spaces for anything which occasionally do shows (very rarely). But! recently i started looking into it more and i think i found some legit grassroots.
first: orfeas bas/venue
mostly for jazz stuff but they do occasionally host rock. The lighting is pretty limited, it is always seated shows and the stage is quite small but it is still a great place to experience many of the greece's young and unknown bands (also you can go there even if you aren't going to see a band)
second: under athens association
not really sure about this one as i have yet to go to it but it seems very good
third: an club
the closest place we have to a windmill. (i have also never been there), from what i've seen they are a very very good venue that host all genres (but with an extra focus on metal)
last but not least: n.a.o.s.
i love this place, i went there for the first time yesterday but sadly i could never recommend it (for now (it will hopefully get better with time)) it is to my understanding a fully independent venue that showcases what an underground music scene is perfectly. There are many problems with it though. First of all, the location is in a damn near abandoned building where the elevator does not work on the third floor, the space inside the venue is also pretty small, and the stage is very much sub-par lastly there is no good lighting (basically 2 stage lights that are not bright enough for shows (in my opinions))
n.a.o.s. in my opinion is a venue with a Lot of potential but its not there yet
