Why Accurate Openings Estimation Matters in Construction Projects?

I wanted to start a discussion about something that often gets overlooked in construction projects, which is estimating doors, windows, and other openings. In many projects, small mistakes in counting or sizing openings can create big problems later, especially when ordering materials or coordinating with different trades like framing, glazing, and millwork.
I have seen projects where incorrect opening quantities caused delays because materials had to be reordered, and sometimes it also affected the overall project budget. That’s why I think openings estimation should be done very carefully during the planning stage.
In one of my recent projects, I actually used reliable openings estimating services and it helped a lot with accurate counts and sizes, and the project ran much smoother without material shortages or last-minute changes.
I’m curious to know how others here handle openings estimation. Do you calculate everything yourself from drawings, or do you outsource this part of the work?
