In my experience, 7 and 6 are the most likely to be friends (in that order) - don't ask me why though. Maybe you'll find out one day...
In order to properly answer your question regarding 7 times 8, I must ask which kind of group/ring we are working with? Indeed, the answer would be very different if 7 and 8 are elements of the ring of integers, compared to the ring of integers modulo 10
